1. How did you find out about CVSC?
I think it was my hairstylist Caylee Funk—I mentioned I was looking for a gym in the valley because we had recently moved here and I missed feeling strong. She wholeheartedly recommended CVSC, with some fun little stories about how awesome Brad has always been (something about a rager of birthday party in the warehouse??) :)
2. What is your favorite exercise or workout?
Ya girl loves a simple, functional movement! I sincerely enjoy back squats, deadlifts, and kettlebell swings but I also like the grind of an AMRAP with calorie work and another movement or two.
3. How long have you been a member at CVSC?
Hmmmm, since 2021? 2022? Long enough to have favorite workouts!
4. What do you do for a living?
I’m a professor at USU. I research how people learn about science outside of schools, so in places like museums or at nature centers. I love it! I get to mentor graduate students and do research that’s fun and meaningful.
5. What are your hobbies?
I love to be outside, which can mean lots of things. For me, it’s hanging in the backyard with my dog and husband; messing around in my garden and convincing my husband to rip out more of our grass for native plants; ripping’ groomers at The Beav; and going backpacking and hiking all over Utah and the western US. But I contain multitudes, so I’m also a big ol’ nerd who loves to play Dungeons and Dragons and Magic: The Gathering.
6. What are your goals?
Technically, I have some numbers I’d like to hit, like doing a body weight squat and stuff like that; but my true goals are much more nebulous, like a continuously moving towards (im)perfection kinda thing.
7. Why do you train?
I train to be strong in the mountains. I like type 2 fun, which means stuff’s gonna be tough sometimes. Working hard in the gym means my legs and body can take me more places I want to go!
8. Any advice for future members?
Ask questions! If you don’t understand something or want some feedback on your form or wonder if there’s a modification for an exercise—ask. CVSC trainers and members want you to succeed. It’s a really supportive community!
