1. How did you find out about CVSC?
My friend, Erika Blomdahl, told me she had started going. I didn’t like the idea of becoming weak and falling behind, so I joined immediately.
2. What is your favorite exercise or workout?
I like doing the small-muscle isolation movements with light weights because it feels beneficial without being difficult. It’s also been fun to work on pull-ups again after a hiatus of about 20 years.
3. How long have you been a member at CVSC?
I joined on June 12, 2025. It’s been about 9 months.
4. What do you do for a living?
I work at Utah State University in the Watershed Sciences Department, running a writing-focused program for undergrads called the Climate Adaptation Intern Program. I also play music.
5. What are your hobbies?
I like to play soccer, hike, bike, ski, read books, write letters, spend time with friends and family, and work on becoming a better musician.
6. What are your goals?
I’d like to keep feeling strong and capable for as long as possible.
7. Why do you train?
I have to train to be able to continue to play soccer. A couple of years ago, I began experiencing some knee pain, which was eventually diagnosed as patella tendinopathy. I began doing physical therapy exercises on my own, but I wasn’t building enough strength to support the joint. Since switching to the gym and going at least four times a week, the issue has largely resolved.
8. Any advice for future members?
As a beginner who had almost no experience with weight training, I have really benefited from the guidance of the instructors. I like showing up to different classes and getting tips on my form. Each instructor has a unique way of explaining the movements, and it’s helpful to hear different perspectives and figure out what cues work well for me.
I also focus just on showing up and going through the motions. I tend to keep the amount of weight low and try to work on form. Some days I have more energy than other days, so I just let that dictate my pace and don’t worry about it.
